This past weekend I had the fortune of being involved in two hard fought, tough games, all be it FROM the sidelines for one.
On Friday night the 3rds a team of eager, energetic, tenacious animals took on Mossley and matched them in every department until the last 20 minutes when tiredness and Mossley's clinical finishing finally paid dividends.
On Friday night I was the only player over 18 playing for East Antrim.
On Saturday the 2nds took on Bangor in a must win encounter. There were 11 players under 22 and only 3 players over thirty, namely Paul Leitch, Gordon Gillespie and Brian Reid. The result went our way but just as satisfying was the way we played. Passing the ball with confidence and attacking with speed and aggression.
The firsts are also a young team with only Murph & Swanny being over 27 (I think).
Whats the point of this ramble you might ask. Just to say that if the long term future of this club is in the hands of those who played on Friday night and on Saturday for both teams I look forward to a long successful era for the club where competition for places is rife and promotion a real possibility.
We are a young, energetic club with the hunger for success and I am sure that this success will come.
I dont think for one second that this success will come quickly. It may take a while be it months or even years, but at East we have the opportunity to develop INTO a major Hockey force once again. I look forward in anticipation to the future.
