A 4-4 draw at Mossley Hockey Club saw the "Sekondery Skool" boys relieved, and the "Grammer School" boys disappointed. Goals FROM Murphy (2), Currie and Riddell should've ensured that the 'intelligencia' grabbed victory for the first time in a number of years.
Unfortunately, Brown, Greer, Baird and Burgess had other ideas. They were, however, ably assisted by the umpires who did seem overly keen to ensure that the "rabble" grabbed a share of the spoils.
Indeed, the second half saw a plethora of short corners awarded to the 'thickos' and rarely as a result of any breakage of the Rules of Hockey.
The Grammar School team were never behind during the contest and did have the chances to destroy their opposition. Unfortunately, their civility was their downfall... a complete contrast with the raucous behaviour of the "Model Boys".
Perhaps future years will see a return to the "friendly" atmosphere that should surround such a Club event?
