Our influx of new players over the last few years has been mediocre, to say the least, however this year I must say how encouraging it is to see so many young players attending training and playing for East Antrim this year.
Around 20 young players (both FROM BRA and Ballyclare High) have attended training with 10 already HAVING their first competitive game for the club. This gives the club a great springboard for the fortcoming season, not to mention a formidable team in 3 or four years time.
I find it very apt that in our centenary year we are able to attract such a large number of young players whom if they continue to play for the club may well bring back another successful era for East Antrim.
Most of these players may spend this season playing 2nd or 3rd eleven hockey but most have the ability to play for the 1sts within a couple of years.
Now that we have attracted a nucleus of young talent it is vital that they are nurtured, coached and encouraged as they develop as players and play for East Antrim with pride.
I hope that this is the view of all senior players at the club and that all members will make a point of giving these young players as much encouragement as possible.
