Irish Hockey Legend agrees to coaching job...
Paul Cooke had a distinguished playing career during the 80s and early 90s, recognised by the fact that he played 91 times for Ireland.
His hockey talents, however, were not limited to playing. He undertook some prestigious coaching roles including inter-provincial posts.
What has this got to do with East Antrim? Well... as part of the club's centennial celebrations, Paul has agreed to take an extended coaching session during August. In fact, Paul has agreed to hold a coaching session for the 1st XI squad on the morning of the President's XI match.
Furthermore, Paul has also agreed to stay on and take a session with the schoolboys and remaining club members. And there's more... he will stay on for the President's XI match, assisting the team before, during and after the match. And the cost to the club? A few pints in the bar afterwards...
Alan Burgess, club captain, commented: "This is too good an opportunity to pass up. The qualities Mr. Cooke will bring will be invaluable - not just FROM a technical viewpoint, but FROM the vast experience he can provide. I will endeavour to ensure that every member of the 1st team squad attends with the right attitude".
The Centenary Committee also hope to attract other Irish International legends to take further coaching sessions throughout the season - refreshers, for want of a better word. Watch this space...
