CENTENARY BOOK LAUNCH SUCCESS
East Antrim Hockey Club's centenary celebrations have been well received this year, but few were as eagerly anticipated as the launch of a book celebrating the Club's 100 years in existence. "Short Corners, Long Memories" was officially launched on Saturday, 12th October, by local media personality, Eddie McIlwaine at Academy Sports Club.
A large crowd was in attendance including some famous Club names like Archbold, Acheson, Hamilton and Horner. A display of old photographs, shirts, ties and trophies drew the attendees attention before and after the formalities, which were limited to speeches from Mr. McIlwaine and one each from the authors - Jim Strange & Stephen Swann.
The book chronicles the fortunes of East Antrim Hockey Club from its formation in 1902 to the modern day with photograph evidence from each decade supporting the story. In fact, over 50 photographs and images were used in the compilation with the oldest photograph having been taken in 1903.
Priced at a modest £10, the book was an instant winner at the till as all attendees were happy to part with their hard-earned cash. The book is currently available from East Antrim Hockey Club officials, but can also be purchased on the internet at www.eastantrim.co.uk (courtesy of Amazon).
Copies have also been donated to local libraries, Newtownabbey Borough Council and the sports governing body - the Ulster Branch of the Irish Hockey Association.
The final event in the Club's centennial calendar takes place this Saturday, 19th October, with a formal dinner dance being held at the Dunadry Hotel & Country Club.
