Match : 1st XI v Crossgar Date : 1998-02-21 Venue : H Score : 2-1 Scorers : Bane, Armstrong
By Stephen Swann Crossgar were the opponents recently in an Intermediate League match. Unfortunately, three East Antrim players failed to weigh-in. When the umpires failed to turn up and team captain, Stephen Swann, had to step off the pitch to umpire, the team was left with just 8 men. Three defenders, three midfielders, a goalkeeper and a lone striker was the setup. Leon Currie was chosen to lead the line. And what a job he did. The 2-1 victory over the County Down team will go down in history. Every member of the team worked for the victory - but Leon was multitasking. Not only was he playing hockey, but he was looking for an Oscar nomination. To be fair- the challenges he received went beyond mis-timed. But the rolling around on the ground that Leon produced was nothing short of Olivier-esque. Even better was the almost instantaneous recovery when helped to his feet. The club would like to thank those that took part in the game. Singling out a Man of the Match would not have been fair on the remaining seven players.
