By Hon Secretary East welcomed many old faces back at Paisley in the form of Parkview, who at the start of the season had beaten us 7 - 1 in the Linden Cup. The boys in green started the game brightly and passed the ball about sharply, steadily progressing up the field and creating chances. Alan Burgess and Alan Russell were making intelligent runs, holding the ball up and getting in behind the Parkview defence winning short corners for East Antrim. It was from these short corners that East spurned two golden chances with firstly Kriss hitting the side netting at the back post and secondly Ronnie deflecting the ball over the bar from 4 inches out!!! At the other end East Antrim were limiting Parkview’s chances with George, Stevie, David Kerr, David Blair and Daniel all snuffing out most of their attacks. Near the end of the first half Parkview lost a player to a yellow card after Alan Russell ghosted past him only to be cynically scythed down. With half time approaching and Parkview down a man East Antrim continued to press forward with Leon finding loads of space to distribute the from but alas no goal was to come. Second half started and Parkview came forward, obviously stung into action by some criticism from their coach at half time. It was in this fifteen minute period that they started to create chances only to be denied by some acrobatic saves by the East keeper. Unfortunately they managed to score with a drag flick that the keeper dived full stretch to save only to see the ball loop up and spin into the net. This spurred East Antrim back into action who spent the last 15 minutes desperately trying to get the equaliser that they so deserved. Unfortunately it didn’t come and East lost the match 1-0. All in all it was our best performance of the season and one which we will hopefully build on in future games. Everybody gave 100 % from first whistle to last which was good to see. Darryl again was outstanding as was the rest of the team.
