Match : 1st XI v Portrush Date : 2006-09-23 Venue : H Score : 2-2 Scorers : NH, DM
By Dc Linden Cup Match. A close fought encounter, in which the outcome was strongly influenced by two poor performances by the so called match officials..!! The Portrush took the lead due to a free being given 15yds from where it should have been, which brought it onto the edge of the east circle, that combined with poor decisions in defence resulted in a goal. The East equaliser soon followed via a Neal Hermon strike from the edge of the circle after a pen corner broke down. Half time. Both teams kept pushing for the winner and the men in green thought they had it, all started from a free in midfield and with some neat passing Leon Currie rolled a ball across the Portrush goal which Davy Menaul couldn’t miss!! With minutes left on the clock and the win in the bag, step up umpire No.2 Line ball for East just inside their half, Portrush managed to steel the ball due to the umpire failing to notice that the Portrush player standing inches away but deeming it to be 5yds, with all but a few players behind the ball east are left chasing down the portrush forwards which resulted in a converted pen stroke for the visitors, before the ball made it to the half way line the final whistle sounded.
