Match : 2nd XI v Newry 4ths Date : 2005-02-05 Venue : A Score : 2-0 Scorers : Currie, Irwin
By George Tumilson The 2nds went into Saturdays game knowing its was going to be a tough match. A 4 o\'clock start away from home against a side fighting against relegation as going to be no easy task. East started the game extremely well and were soon reward with a goal, scored by the one and only Leon Currie. Soon followed another goal thanks to a little bit of inspirational play and the accurate and deadly touch of Phil Irwin. Once two nil up east seemed to switch of allowing Newry attackers to get a shot on goal that hit the post and was luckily cleared by the east defence. Newry were given a penalty flick, which was saved brilliantly by Cookie. No goals in the second half though Newry did manage to hit the post again. Considering East had no proper subs with them playing against a side of at least sixteen men I was generally pleased with the teams performance. Lets hope that the team can go into next Saturdays match with high hopes for a good cup run.
