Match : 2nd XI v Bangor 5ths Date : 2004-02-14 Venue : H Score : 2-1 Scorers : Murphy, Nicholl
By Stephen Swann What should've been a stroll in the park turned out to be a nervy display of overworked attacking play and sloppy defending. The midfield didn't seem to be as cohesive as it can be and the team can only think themselves lucky to snatch a victory. That said, a victory is exactly what the team deserved as Bangor offered precious little opposition. They did have one or two players who were useful, but they were let down in important positions. After a succession of penalty corners, Murphy finally dispatched one into the net. A Fraser reaction save prevented an equaliser shortly before half-time, but Bangor did (amazingly) get level after the restart! The pressure on the Bangor defence built up, but the Green Machine seemed more intent with walking the ball into the net - good work from Hamilton, then Irwin and finally Nicholl constructed the winning goal 10 minutes from the end of the match. So the final game at Fortress Ballysillan for the 2nd XI ended in victory and a healthy looking home record for the season.
