Match : 2nd XI v Cookstown 6ths Date : 2004-02-07 Venue : A Score : 1-3 Scorers : Swann
By Stephen Swann The 2nd XI's Minor Cup run came to an end at a snowy Cookstown High School when amateurish defending and naivety came to the fore once again. Swann's accurate push-shot evaded the keeper to level the scores shortly before half-time, but not before Cooke had to save a penalty stroke. At 1-1, East were starting to look the more dangerous, and in fact the second half seemed to be made up of a catalogue of striking errors. Murphy hit the post and Nicholl missed from close range. But it was at the other end of the pitch that problems surfaced. Unorthodox actions from the back five contrived to gift Cookstown two goals and the tie was effectively over. Four more games to go in the league, with precious little to play for other than pride. No promotion, no cup win and no relegation battle.
