Match : 2nd XI v Cookstown 6ths Date : 2003-11-15 Venue : H Score : 2-0 Scorers : Irwin(2)
By Stephen Swann Could the 2nds make it 3 wins out of 3? Yes they could, but they made hard work of it. For 20 minutes, Cookstown hardly touched the ball - with the exception of their keeper who was inspirational. He ensured that the half time scoreline was 0-0, but the belief in the 2nds at present is such that they reckon they can win any match. The 2nd half was once again dominated by the Green Machine and the inevitable goal did come - Phil Irwin dispatching a shot into the corner of the net. Shortly afterwards, Phil got his brace after great attacking play from the East forwards. At 2-0, the game was dead and the teams coasted towards full time. The victory elevates the team up to mid-table respectability. However, an away match against Portadown next week will be much tougher.
