Match : 2nd XI v Lisnagarvey 6ths Date : 2003-11-08 Venue : A Score : 5-1 Scorers : Young (3), Irwin, Murphy
By Stephen Swann Lisnagarvey may have been bottom of the league prior to this encounter, but they played above their station for 15 minutes and managed to take the lead in the game. It was end-to-end stuff, despite the gale-force winds with East having the better chances. In fact, before half-time, Aaron Young stuck away a chance created by Phil Irwin. The second half was a strange affair. A second goal for East Antrim seemed to condemn Lisnagarvey as they fell apart. The second goal was followed by a third, and a fourth and a fifth. Aaron Young completed his hat-trick with Murphy converting a penalty corner (again) and Phil Irwin got onto the end of a Bob Watters cross. The manner of the victory, however, was stunning. Incisive, aggressive, quick-thinking, inventive... Once again, Andrew Blair was a star! Aaron Young scored three! But Phil Irwin was immense and tortured the 'Garvey defence. 10 goals in 2 games now and clearly the league's top-scorers!
