Match : 2nd XI v Larne 2nds Date : 2003-10-11 Venue : A Score : 2-2 Scorers : Swann, Bannon
By Stephen Swann With a blend of youth and experience, the 2nds were hopeful of picking up their first points of the season. Despite some early scares (the crossbar and post were both rattled by the Larne attackers), the Green Machine controlled proceedings in the first half. A captain's performance was capped with a well executed goal half-way through the first half and only a magnificent save from the Larne keeper prevented a captain's brace! Young was the ideal target man up front and Blair, Bannon and Hamilton were very dangerous. A "dubious" penalty corner was converted by Larne on the stroke of half time to even matters. Another converted penalty corner in the second half made the scoreline 2-1 to Larne as they eased their way back into the match. However, the spoils were shared when Johnston drilled the ball across the face of the goal for Bannon to tap into the back of the net for his first EAHC goal. All-in-all, a performance worthy of a victory, but points on the board are important at this stage of the season. A tough match against Portadown next week awaits the 2nds though...
