Match : 2nd XI v Annadale 5ths Date : 2003-09-27 Venue : A Score : 4-6 Scorers : Young(3), Nicholl
By Stephen Swann At 1:05pm, we had just 9 men - Anthony Bannon having been taken ill and Neil Johnston stuck at hospital. By the time the game got underway, though, a full compliment of players was on the picth. It got even better when the youngsters took the lead with a well taken goal from Stevie Nicholl - magnificent interchanges with Aaron Young did the damage. Unfortunately, the rest of the first half didn't go according to plan - 3 goals for Annadale came rather cheaply as the "naive" word crept into the our defensive capabilities. Opportunities did present themselves, however. Young, Nicholl and Baird all had good chances. The second half was a ding-dong affair with 6 goals being shared between the two teams. Aaron Young didn't feel like sharing as he struck all three East Antrim goals. The first from a penalty corner (despite Dale protests). The second from some sensational dribbling from the team captain and the third from some opportunistic play at the top of the circle. The defensive lapses remained, however. A 6-4 final scoreline means that the 2nds have played two league matches, have scored 7 goals, have conceded 10 and have 0 points! Attacking-wise, everything looks great but the defensive frailties must be shored up SOON.
