Match : 2nd XI v N.I.C.S. 4ths Date : 2003-09-13 Venue : A Score : 0-0 Scorers :
By Stephen Swann When a 2nd XI takes to the pitch with the bulk of the previous season's 3rds... AND... when the opposition play in Junior League 4... you expect to get turned over. WRONG A 0-0 scoreline may give the impression that the game was without incident, but many of the junior players within the Club will have played themselves into contention for a regular 2nd XI place. Indeed, as the 1st XI captain was watching, 1st XI stardom for some may not be such a distant reality. There is no doubt that every player on the pitch exceeded my expectations. Picking out individuals always seems unfair, but the flair of Hamilton and Jamison, was matched by the composure of Tumilson and the acrobatics of Hutton. Hutton turned in an exemplary performance in goal and easily deserved a "Man of the Match" award. Chances, however, were hard come by. The first half showed much attacking promise without any real pressure being applied to the Service goal. Service may have considered themselves unfortunate to be still level (thanks to Hutton). The second half was a more impressive affair, although the squad will have to polish its short corner routine. The old boys looked solid during the course of the game while the youngsters provided the energy and flair - a combination that will hopefully proove fruitful this season.
