Match : 3rd XI v Annadale 6ths Date : 2003-03-01 Venue : H Score : 4-2 Scorers : Swann(2), Hamilton, Johnston
By Stephen Swann The 3rds got their first win of the season with an impressive display against a very competent Annadale team. East looked comfortable in defence, and had great joy up front in creating havoc in the Dale defence. Indeed, Scott Hamilton tortured Dale on the right wing. The first goal, however, was rather fortunate. After squandering a couple of good chances, Swann "mis-hit" a shot which was deflected of the inside leg of the Dale goalkeeper. Minutes later, superb work from Baird set up Hamilton who took his opprtunity with a deft shot. 2-0 and coasting. Unfortunately, Soupy Campbell was introduced to the game at half-time and the second half was a more even affair with Dale scoring twice (albeit in controversial fashion). Neil Johnston sent a thunderbolt from the edge of the circle past the keeper. But the goal of the day was East's fourth. Brian Reid collected the ball inside the circle and unselfishly laid it to Swann who, in one movement, lofted the ball high above the Dale keeper and into the net off the inside of the post. The score finished 4-2, but more importantly, there were some solid performances from the "youngsters". George Tumilson was a rock at the back and Scott Hamilton was inventive up front. There's plenty of evidence to suggest the team has improved vastly since the start of the season.
