Match Report

By Stephen Swann

A belated Match Report... due to the captain's inability to find sufficient time to write it up.

Down came to Ballysillan with an unbeaten record in the league. Unfortunately, they left Ballysillan with that record intact. However... it could've been very different.

The massive support on the sidelines would probably agree that if points were awarded on effort, possession and chances, then East Antrim would've taken the spoils on the day. As it is, goals count!

By half-time, East Antrim were 2-0 down. How could this have happened when the green machine dominated possession? A freaky first goal that should never have been allowed was followed by an early Christmas present for the Down centre-forward. His present was lovingly wrapped, with a bow and card attached!

A Leon Currie special in the second half gave the team a glimmer of hope. In fact, the East forward line performed this week by pounding the Down goal-mouth (if not the goal itself). Short corner after short corner was won... to no avail. This reporter even had a bit of a dribble himself - and I ain't got any knees!

But we let ourselves down once again by gifting a third goal to the County Down men.

The moral of the game should really be : "Keep it tight at the back (good advice for any red-blooded male) and practice our short corners!"
